Bakeries & Pastry
5,996 places in 3,473 cities.
France supplies almost a third of these bakeries, 1,838, most of them boulangeries whose reviews dwell on viennoiseries and baguettes; Bakery Sicard on the RN 137 at Saint-Jean-de-Beugné, in the Vendée, opens at 6 AM daily and is reviewed for gâche vendéenne. Spain and Italy come next. Italian pastry shops outnumber bread bakeries, and cornetti, focaccia and cannoli recur: Two Sizes on Via del Governo Vecchio in Rome is reviewed for tiramisu in five flavours. Spanish reviews mention empanadas and bocadillos, and on Mallorca ensaïmadas and coca de patata, as at Ca'n Molinas in Valldemossa.
Reviews of Greek bakeries turn to spanakopita, bougatsa and baklava, of British ones to pasties and sausage rolls, and of Portuguese ones to pastéis de nata, sold also at Lisboa Patisserie on Golborne Road in London. In Berlin-Neukölln, Edlib bakery sells Syrian sweets until 11 PM daily. About two thirds of the places listing a price give €1–10 or £1–10 per person.
