Bakeries (307) make up about half of the British list, followed by coffee shops (105) and ice-cream parlours (57). London has more than 50 places and Manchester 19, yet seaside towns weigh as much as cities: Whitby, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington on the Yorkshire coast, Hull, and Devon and Cornwall, whose PL, EX, TQ and TR postcodes add up to about a hundred. Wales has just over 30, while Scotland and Northern Ireland do not appear.

Reviews name the national staples, pasties at more than a hundred places, then sausage rolls, pies and scones, with cream teas clustered in Devon and Cornwall: Fremington Quay, a cycling stop on the estuary near Barnstaple, is reviewed for cream teas, The Clock Cafe on Scarborough's Spa for scones, and Handley's Bakery in Chorley for pies and hot pot. London's bakeries lean international, from pastéis de nata at Lisboa Patisserie on Golborne Road to manakeesh at Kamil Bakery in NW10 and Afghan bolani at Watan Bakery in Southall. Almost half the places with known hours close on Sundays, and four in five with prices list £1–10.
