Bakeries & cafés in Greece

910 places in 373 cities.

The Peloponnese, not Athens, is the heart of the Greek list. Messinia and Laconia alone have more than 200 places, from Kalamata (40), Pylos and Kyparissia to Sparti (22) and Gytheio, and the peninsula as a whole supplies well over a third. Attica adds about 140, some 80 of them in Athens, Thessaloniki has 31, and Kefalonia, Zakynthos and Lefkada about 80 between them; Crete, the Cyclades and the Dodecanese do not appear.

Coffee shops (263) lead, ahead of bakeries and patisseries. More than four in five places with known hours open all week, and 127 stay open past 1 AM on some night. Below the Acropolis, Alchemist Cafe Patisserie on Chatzichristou is reviewed for portokalopita and galaktoboureko and Takis Bakery on Misaraliotou for spinach pie, while Ariston on Voulis bakes tiropita and closes on Sundays. Antica Gelateria di Roma in Nafplio serves gelato until 1 AM or later, Krinos Bakery on the main square of Pylos runs from 6 AM to 12:30 AM, and Tholos Rest Stop near Livadia lists 24-hour opening. Over half the places offer delivery.
