Bakeries & cafés in Finland
117 places in 74 cities.
Western Finland dominates the list. Vaasa has 14 of the 117 places, and the Ostrobothnian coast around it, from Kristinestad and Närpes to Oravais, Nykarleby and Jakobstad, accounts for more than a quarter, often under Swedish names such as Maxmo Hembageri or the Glasskiosk in Jakobstad. Inland the entries run through South Ostrobothnia, Central Finland around Jyväskylä and Saarijärvi, and Satakunta around Pori and Rauma; Helsinki, Turku, Oulu and Lapland do not appear.
Small formats prevail: 42 bakeries, nine of them named kotileipomo, a home bakery, 25 coffee shops, and 24 ice-cream shops, half of them kiosks. Baking is weekday work at places such as Ab Bageri Luukkonen in Jakobstad, open from 6 AM to 12:30 PM from Monday to Friday, and nearly two thirds of the places with known hours close on Sundays. Villentornin Kahvio on Jyväskylä's Yliopistonkatu is the late exception, with hours until 5 AM on Fridays and Saturdays, and Wanhan Rauman jäätelökauppa sells ice cream in Old Rauma.
