In Bakklandet, the old wooden quarter across the river, Nabolaget Bagelri on Nedre Bakklandet serves bagels with cream cheese, plus tiramisu and Basque cheesecake, with vegan choices, from Tuesday to Sunday. Café le Frère on Søndre gate is a coffee bar for espresso and flat whites, whose reviews also mention its plants and books; it opens every day and has outdoor seats. Two of the six bakeries are at Lade, north-east of the centre: Donut House inside Lade Arena, which sells doughnuts from Monday to Saturday and delivers, and a bread bakery in the nearby City Lade centre.
